Fursuit Dance Competition Rules
All competitors are bound by these rules. Violating the rules may result in disqualification from the event.
TLDR:
Auditions:
- No age restriction
- Must attend prelims, if unable, please upload your preliminary
- One audition only
- Can only compete with original choreography
- Paws and Head minimum
Music:
- Solo has a 2:00 limit (going over by a few seconds is ok, 5 second maximum)
- Group can add 30 seconds per additional competitor up to 3:00
- Music cannot have explicit or offensive content
Auditions:
- To compete in the Fursuit Dance Competition you must attend the scheduled prelims.
- If you cannot attend the prelims, please send a video submission to [email protected]
- While we don’t have an age restriction on this competition, a minor must have their adult companion with them at all times.
- Due to intellectual property rules, you may not compete for a winning position with a replicated routine, so only original choreography is allowed.
- You must perform the first minute of your routine during the prelims in the fursuit you will be performing in for finals.
- Fursuit feet are encouraged but not required
- Performers must at least have a head and handpaws
Music Guidelines:
- Performances must not exceed 2:00 long. It is recommended that competitors do a simple edit on their music tracks to prevent any possible issues with start/end times during the competition.
- The minimum time for a routine is 1:00 long.
- If your music runs longer than 2:00 (two minutes), it will fade out at that point. If your routine goes over by a few seconds (5 at the most) it will be fine, but if you can end it by 2:00 it is greatly preferred.
- Group entries are allotted an extra 30 seconds per additional person. This starts when a group has three members. For example, a group of two would still have the limit of two minutes, but a group of three would be allotted 2:30. The maximum time a group’s mix should be is 3:00.
- Music should not include any inappropriate language or lyrics. This is a family-friendly convention and this event is rated PG13. Any inappropriate language in a track should be edited out by the performer beforehand. It’s encouraged to look up radio edits of music to see if there is something pre-censored for an easier editing process.
- Gun sound effects must be kept to a minimum, including cocking, trigger pulling, and gunshot sounds. At the most, 5 of these sound effects will be allowed, and the song will still have to be approved by staff.
- Music tracks can be uploaded via the sign up forms or emailed to [email protected]
- All emails should include your performer name in the body of the email, as well as any specific requests you may have for tryouts. Special requests regarding finals can be made in person at prelims.
Props/Attire:
- Only small clothing or “accessory” props (a cane, hat, fan, plush, exc.) are allowed to be used.
- No revealing attire allowed- dress as you would amongst regular dancers or company.
- Offensive logos or graphics are not allowed and are frowned upon
- Footwear used for specific dance-styles are allowed (ballet shoes, tap-dance shoes, high heels, exc.)
- Please send an email to [email protected] if you plan on using any props so we are aware and ready to accommodate.
- Minimum of head and handpaws
- We are NOT responsible for injuries/damaged equipment/clothing
Behavior:
- Any aggressive or bullying behavior will NOT be tolerated.
- Consequences of this behavior can result in disqualification of dance events, or even blacklisting from future FurSquared conventions.
- If you witness any behaviors like this, please contact either lead staff of dance events, con security, find a member of Warm and Fuzzies, or email [email protected]
